Flood Insurance

The weather in West Michigan has been so abnormal this winter. Our first major snow just occurred and then two days later it melted, then rain and freezing rain. Needless to say, Portland, has been evacuated due to flooding. As I was watching the news, one lady is talking about how her basement has 5 - 6 feet of water in it and all her photos are floating in the water. My heart is breaking for these families.

It is important to plan for these events and start digitizing our printed photos and memorabilia. It is much easier to start this process before a natural disaster.

Taking small steps is the best method to get motivated. Write down your plan and goals. You can start out by dedicating an hour a week for a month. Depending on how quickly things are going you can adjust your time accordingly. Then gather your photos and memorabilia. If you don't have a scanner you can rent one. Just do a quick Google search. If you can't find a local retailer that rents scanners, contact my friends at ezphotoscan.com.

Another one of my favorite resources is Saveyourphotos.org. They have great information on disaster help, before and after.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need some help.

"One of the best ways to make yourself happy in the present is to recall happy times from the past. Photos are a great memory-prompt, and because we tend to take photos of happy occasions, they weight our memories to the good." Gretchen Rubin
